Having lived in Hong Kong, the United Kingdom, Boston, New York, Ecuador, Los Angeles, Washington DC and now, Hanoi, Vietnam. I am entranced by different cultures and the copious forms of human settlements. I love Hong Kong for its compactness, convenience, and modernity; the UK for its ingenious adaptive reuse of historical structures; Boston for its quaintness and walkability; New York for its cultural vivacity; Ecuador for its unkempt neighborhoods bursting with street life; LA for its outdoors while cursing at its fragmentation and sprawl; DC for its political significance and finally; Hanoi for its entrepreneurial spirit and scrumptious street food.
I have not encountered my “perfect” city – all cities have their own merits and shortfalls. In this blog I strive to document the tidbits from encounters within the built environment, activities that add colour to life, and daily food for thought. Hopefully, it serves as an online scrapbook of the bright and the not-so-bright sides of the urban environment we reside in.
